WESTERN WILDCATS FOOTBALL & CHEER

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where are games and practices held?
A: Western holds all practices at Quioccasin (Byrd) Middle School, 9400 Quioccasin Rd, Henrico. Games are held at Quioccasin MS and other field locations around the Richmond area.

Q: Who runs Western?
A: Western is run by a volunteer Board of Directors that is elected annually and each Director is listed on the website.

Q: I have special talents or no talents and want to volunteer, who should I contact?
A: Western is an all-volunteer organization! Please contact any Board Member or email [email protected]. Thank you for volunteering your time and talents!

Q: I would like to coach my son’s football team or I want to coach my daughter’s cheerleading squad, but I am not sure what to do?
A: Please email [email protected] to discuss how you can be involved in the Western Wildcats organization.

Q: What equipment does Western supply and what equipment will each family need to supply their child?
A: Western provides each child a properly fitted helmet, practice jersey, and game jersey. Each family will be responsible for shoulder pads, pants (and pads for pants) and cleats.

The Cheer squads receive uniforms, including poms, and the parents will need to supply the shoes, socks, and other cheer accessories.

Q: We have scheduled summer vacation during the first two weeks of practice, what should we do?
A: Please email [email protected] with the dates your player will miss. As required by our rules, players must practice 5 days with no equipment before being eligible to hit.

Q: What about other equipment?
A: Helmet shields are allowed however they must be CLEAR (no tinting whatsoever). All cleats have to be plastic. Shoulder pad collars are permitted.

Some parents have purchased helmets for their child, which is allowed, but it must be an approved helmet and be silver. All mouthpieces must have some color (can’t be clear) and be attached to the helmet by a strap.

Q: My son’s equipment that Western gave him needs to be adjusted or replaced. When is the best time to have it adjusted or replaced?
A: We urge players to address equipment issues early and not immediately before practice. If an equipment issue arises, please arrive at the field early for equipment managers to correct the issue.

During the summer, when most of these issues arise, we will expect an equipment manager to be available 45 minutes before practice starts. Please do not enter the equipment room when it is unattended. This only leads to confusion and lost equipment.
