Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When does the first practice begin?
A: Our first practice will be August 9th. Cheerleading camp will run Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays 6:30 -7:45 pm.

Q: What are the practice schedules?
A: Practice from August 9-Sept 2 will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm. All cheerleaders will practice at Byrd Middle School.  Once school starts, practice will be two nights  a week from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. There may be certain occasions, such as Homecoming or the Metro Exhibition, where the squads will have an additional practice during the school week.

Q: What should be worn to practice?
A: You should wear cheering shorts or shorts with NO pockets, a t-shirt (no tank tops),and socks with tennis shoes. No slip on shoes. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND! Hair should also be pulled up into a pony tail or out of the face if hair is not long enough for a pony tail.

Q: If it rains, will there be practice and/or games?
A: We will never practice nor play games if there is a presence of lightning. If inclement weather is expected, frequently check your email from updates from you coach and or the cheer director.
**Metro cancels games due to inclement weather. Metro will not cancel a game until approximately 7:30 A.M. on game days.

Q: What items do I have to purchase?
A: Western supplies the cheer uniform and pompoms.   We will have cheerleading uniform fittings in June and July for the 2010 season.  Tennis shoes, lollies, socks, hair ribbons, crop top, and warm up suits are purchased by each cheerleader.

Q: How can I determine the football schedules?
A: Your coach will have the schedules. In addition, the football schedules will be posted on the Western website.

Q: Do the JV teams play the same schedules as the Varsity teams?
A: Metro will determine the JV schedules approximately the last week of August. These schedules are dependent on the number of other Associations that will field JV teams. In most cases, the JV teams will play at the same location as the varsity teams, but there is no guarantee that this will happen.

Q: How will I know what part of my uniform to wear to the games?
A: Your individual coaches will announce at the end of practices on Thursday what needs to be worn to the game the following Saturday. Each cheerleader is responsible for having ALL uniform and accessory pieces with her at the EVERY game. The weather can change so we are always prepared for anything. Metro requires all cheerleaders attire to be uniform; therefore, if you are missing a piece of your uniform you cannot cheer.
